My friend Cedric the Entertainer told me about my next guest - a remarkable teen from Kansas City, Missouri named Trenton Lee who’s been getting bullied for designing wigs. At 15-years-old he’s already so talented that people are paying for his work, but he’s still got people trying to keep him down.
"... I started playing with hair when I was two. It’s been a build-up. I would pretend toilet paper was hair! It was my comfort, so it was something I always did. When anything was going wrong around me, hair was my place where I could be comfortable. But only recently have I realized that I could make this a business." says Trenton.
Ted Gibson - a celebrity hairstylist - surprised Trenton and shared his experience when he was going through the same issue.
"I know exactly what you’re going through, Trenton. I grew up in a small town in Texas and know all too well about bullying," says Ted. "I want you to know that sticking with something that you’re passionate about and great at – that’s everything. When I was growing up there were no role models for me, so I want you to know there are people for you to emulate now. I also know exactly what you mean about wanting to make women feel beautiful through their hair."
To help support Trenton and his business, Steve Harvey reached out to his friends at Sally Beauty. They donated $20,000 to help Trenton bring his business to the next level!
Special thanks to Sally Beauty for partnering with us.
