Who doesn’t love a good birthday party? For the most part, we all look forward to celebrating our birthdays, but for the children who are living on Skid Row, an area here in Los Angeles where over 2,500 homeless people live, this may not be the case.
Mary & Ari are working to bring a little joy to every child on Skid Row by helping them celebrate their birthdays in the best possible way.
"A number of years ago my husband and I started volunteering on skid row, helping the homeless. We were handing out food, etc. At the time, it was mostly homeless adults but shortly after, we started to notice more and more kids on skid row." says Mary. "During that time, it was very challenging because we were also trying to have kids of our own, but unfortunately, we had a number of miscarriages. So, I wanted to do something for the kids of that community and I said to Ari, you know we can’t have birthday parties for our kids, so why don’t we do it for these kids out here."
Mary and Ari have been helping a lot of families by taking off the pressure during that one time a year where a parent wants to be there for their children, so Steve Harvey did something to help Mary and Ari continue to bring love to that community. Steve's friends at Sam’s Club heard about what Mary and Ari are doing for kids and wanted to help them keep it going by giving them $5,000!
Special thanks to Sam's Club for partnering with us!
